▲ Tibet project site: eight cabins lined up on the plateau, backed by mountains
1. Background
Tibet sits at extreme altitude: thin air, low pressure, severe winters and strong ultraviolet light. Fresh vegetables and mushrooms have long been trucked in from far away — costly, loss-prone and rarely fresh. The region enjoys a naturally cool climate, yet lacked equipment that could fruit mushrooms reliably at altitude.
In 2023, a local customer — developing a high-plateau specialty mushroom industry so that local people could eat “locally grown fresh mushrooms” — purchased eight of our 40ft mushroom cultivation cabins and began growing king oyster and oyster mushrooms in factory mode. All eight were delivered and put into fruiting within the year, achieving stable year-round production in a low-oxygen, high-altitude environment.
2. The Solution: 40ft Mushroom Cultivation Cabin
The eight cabins are configured for two-species, zone-separated growing: king oyster mushrooms are demanding about temperature and humidity, while oyster mushrooms fruit fast and yield heavily — each variety gets its own sealed cabin, so neither interferes with the other.
- High-altitude adaptation — Climate control calibrated for low pressure, thin oxygen, strong sunlight and wide day–night swings — conditions inside stay constant all year, whatever the weather outside.
- Two-species, separated zones — King oyster and oyster mushrooms are managed in independent cabins with separate temperature and humidity control, so varieties never conflict and production plans stay flexible.
- High-density vertical racking — Multi-tier racks multiply the growing space, so each cabin yields far more than the same floor area under flat planting.
- Closed, clean fruiting — The sealed shell keeps out dust, pests and contaminants; with filtered fresh air, mushrooms come out clean and uniform, ready to sell as harvested.
- Smart control + remote management — Temperature, humidity, ventilation and light adjust automatically; monitor and adjust from a phone, with automatic alarms. One person can run many cabins — a real answer to the labour shortage on the plateau.
- Plug in and produce — Factory-built, shipped whole, installed on raised legs and producing as soon as power is connected — no construction works; add cabins to scale up.
3. On Site
The eight cabins stand in a neat row on the plateau base, elevated on the existing concrete yard — no building permits, no damage to the ground. Outside is the cold, dry air of the plateau; inside is a constant “mushroom-friendly cabin”: racks packed with substrate bags, dense fruiting, thick caps and normal colour.
▲ Dense fruiting on the vertical racks inside the cabin — thick caps, uniform growth
▲ King oyster mushrooms fruiting evenly: thick stems, round caps, uniform size
▲ Fresh mushrooms harvested into crates and shipped straight to the local market
▲ Quality check on site: uniform grade and a consistent standard
King oyster mushrooms come out with thick stems and round caps; oyster mushrooms cluster vigorously with heavy yields. Harvested into crates and delivered straight to the local market, fresh mushrooms no longer depend on long-distance transport. The customer has recognised the stability of the equipment and the fruiting quality at high altitude.
4. Customer Value
- ✔ Locally grown fresh mushrooms — No more long-distance hauls — locally grown mushrooms go from harvest to market the same day.
- ✔ Extreme climate is no longer a limit — Sealed, climate-controlled cabins fruit year-round even at high altitude and in severe cold.
- ✔ Cold climate becomes an advantage — The natural cooling of the plateau cuts energy use — the colder the region, the lower the power bill.
- ✔ Asset-light, fast start — No construction approval needed; cabins land on raised legs and start producing on connection.
- ✔ Less labour, less worry — Smart climate control plus one-person, multi-cabin management eases the labour shortage and cost on the plateau.
- ✔ Local jobs and income — A specialty mushroom industry rooted on the plateau creates stable jobs for local people.
